About

Dr Rebecca Finkel is a graduate from Princeton University and was awarded a PhD in Cultural Geography from King's College London, University of London. Currently, she is Programme Leader & Lecturer of Events Management in the School of Arts, Social Sciences and Management at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Her main field of study is the role of festivals in the cultural economy and their social, economic and political impacts on communities and places. Main research interests include the strategic analysis of government socio-economic policies for funding and development with regard to social capital and social equality. New research focuses on community events management within conceptual frameworks of identity, symbolic boundaries, gender and resistance to globalisation, as well as mapping human rights and mega sporting events, currently focusing on the links between human trafficking and the Olympic Games. She is the author of Human Rights and Global Events with Routledge due to be published next year.
